This is a report produced for the OECD. It provides a self-contained
introduction to the theory of growth but the main emphasis is on empirical literature
that tests the link between taxation and growth. The main chapters cover growth
regressions, growth accounting, empirical results for consumers, and empirical
results for firms.

Published in May 2006 by
MIT Press, written with Jean Hindriks. This has been my major project over
the last few years. We have aimed to integrate the traditional welfararist
approach to public economics with developments in the new political economy
and public choice literature. The text is written at the senior
undergraduate/beginning graduate level. Numerous exercises are included. The
book can be ordered from this link.
MIT
Press: Intermediate Public Economics A solutions manual
(jointly written with Nigar Hashimzade and Jean Hindriks) is also available
from MIT. This provides comprehensive solutions for all the exercises in the
text. Powerpoint presentations
for use in lectures are also available for downloading by following the link
to the web pages for the book. |

I am the author of the
book "Public Economics" published by Cambridge University Press.
This is a graduate-level text that aims to cover the major themes of public
economics in some detail. It has chapters on basic equilibrium theory and
welfare economics and then proceeds to address taxation and market failures.
The publisher's page for this can be accessed by following the link below. It
provides some further details and allows orders to be placed directly. I have
now started work on the Second Edition. A pdf with the latest progress will
soon be available. Until then, I welcome any comments on the First Edition. |

Peter Hammond and I
collaborated to produce a volume to celebrate the award of the Nobel Prize to
James Mirrlees. A number of his students and co-authors were invited to
contribute papers and this volume is the result. The volume was launched with

I worked with David Miles and
Ian Preston to produce this collection of papers which describe the various
areas of public expenditure. Each chapter covers a separate category of
expenditure, providing a description of the data, a discussion of the policy
issues and an analysis of the relevant theory. As a whole, the book provides
a unique analysis of public spending. The Economics of Public

This is a significantly revised version of the second edition. The major changes are the inclusion of entries on
recent theoretical innovations, an increased number of entries on game theory, and the addition of a substantial
number of econometrics entries.
From the Oxford University Press catalogue:
"An authoritative and comprehensive dictionary
containing 2,500 key economic terms with clear, concise definitions. It covers all aspects of economics
including economic theory, applied microeconomics and macroeconomics, labour economics, public
economics and public finance, monetary economics, environmental economics, and many others. There
is strong coverage of international trade and many entries on economic organizations and institutions from
around the world. This edition contains expanded coverage of common econometric concepts and
highlights major theoretical concepts including agency , competition , equilibrium .
Fully revised and updated, this edition now features recommended web links at entry level. These links
are a valuable source of extra information and they are conveniently accessed and kept up to date via
the Dictionary of Economics companion web page. The new appendix of institutional acronyms provides
details for each organization, including the website of each to aid further research. With an A-Z format,
this book is as ideal for browsing as it is useful for quick reference, and it remains an essential guide for
students and teachers of economics, business, and finance, as well as professional economists and anyone
who has to deal with economic data." Oxford Dictionary of Economics |
