Potted life history

Born in London 1950; educated Westminster School and Corpus Christi College Cambridge; PhD at Liverpool University. Read Natural Sciences Tripos at Cambridge, Pt II Genetics; PhD also in Genetics.

Postdoctoral career: NERC Research Fellow and Temporary lecturer at Liverpool, then they offered me a job down in the sunny southwest, and I have been here ever since. Currently Professor in Evolutionary Genetics and Head of School.

Between Cambridge and Liverpool I went to Malawi on VSO, and taught English and Biology at the Kasungu Day Secondary School. I don't know how useful I was to Malawi, but I certainly learnt a lot.
