P383 BSI IST/5/-/15 (POSIX) POSIX Panel Activity Report 7 June 1999 1. Introduction IST/5/-/15 has not met since the last IST/5 meeting. The main status to report since the last meeting is the progress made by the Austin Group (see below). 2. ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG15 The next meeting is scheduled for July 23rd in Montreal, which coincides with the IEEE PASC and Austin Group meetings. 3. The Austin Group The Austin Group is a joint technical working group established to consider the matter of a common revision of ISO/IEC 9945-1, ISO/IEC 9945-2, IEEE Std 1003.1, IEEE Std 1003.2 and the appropriate parts of the Single UNIX Specification. ISO JTC1/SC22/WG15 is an active participant in the Austin group. At its last meeting, WG15 established two rapporteur groups by resolution 99-406 to participate in and report to WG15 on the revision process (REV) and on the procedural issues arising from and necessary for the joint revision process (RPC). The two Rapporteur groups are lead by Nick Stoughton (UK) and David Blackwood (Can) respectively. At the April IEEE PASC meeting the sponsor executive committee approved the Project Authorization request for the joint revision and this has been submitted to the IEEE Standards Board for consideration at their meeting on June 25th. On June 1st, The Open Group and the IEEE signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the common revision to the POSIX and Base specifications of the Single UNIX Specification. Under this agreement The Open Group and IEEE will share joint copyright of the resulting work which will replace the existing IEEE 1003.1 and 1003.2 standards, and The Open Group Base specifications. It is expected that the joint work will also be put forward for adoption as an ISO/IEC standard as part of the revision process. Also on June 1st the draft one specifications were made available from the Austin Group web site, see URL: http://www.opengroup.org/austin/login.html. The review period commences June 1st and completes on Wednesday July 14th. The next meeting of the Austin Group will be in Montreal on July 20-22 co-located with the IEEE PASC meeting and the ISO WG15 meeting. 4.
