UK MB Report to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG15 24-28 Oct 1994 Vancouver, Canada Response to WG15 actions on the UK MB: 9405-15 Member bodies: Member bodies to contribute national profiles that they have developed to RIN and WG20 (open action item Paris-07, 9310-26) See response to WG15 AI 9405-17, below. 9405-17 United Kingdom: Provide a national profile to RIN and WG20 or provide a progress report on 9405-15 to WG15 by the Oct/94 meeting. This action continues. IST/5-/15 is in the process of producing a UK-English locale, and interest has been expressed in a Welsh locale. The intention is to develop a full UK national profile by some unspecifiable future date. The current working draft, IST/5/-/15 P259 Draft 1.2: English Language UK National Profile for Posix, has been circulated by email to both the WG15 and WG20 email lists for comment. The document is also available to the WG15 October meeting. 9405-19 Member bodies: Identify participants in the 9945-1 and 9945-2 interpretations process. Representatives should be identified to the Convenor via eMail as soon as possible (open action item 9310-37). Andrew Josey (UK) is the IEEE Interpretations VC. The UK has no other participants to offer at this time. 9405-21 United Kingdom: Review draft 8 of 2003.2 and comment to RGCT for discussion at the Oct/94 meeting. The UK has no comment on the draft. 9405-23 Member bodies: Comment to WG15 RIN draft position on ISO 10646 impact on POSIX standards (open action item 9310-47). The UK has no comment to make on the impact of ISO 10646. 9405-29 Member bodies: Review and comment on the project management format contained in N486. The UK believes that the format is appropriate and should be given a trial. 9405-42 Member bodies: Determine the feasibility of working with CEN as documented in N444 for the registry of POSIX national profiles, locales and charmaps for discussion at the Oct/94 meeting The UK understands that CEN would be an appropriate repository for such items, but the mechanism for establishing and maintaining a dialogue between SC22/WG15 and CEN - eg: to ensure that entries in the repository are as accurate and as up-to-date as possible - was unclear to IST/5/-/15 (the UK Posix Panel). It is known, for example, that various National locales are available from an anonymous FTP site, but is is not known how accurate they are nor whether they have been endorsed by the appropriate National bodies. It is essential that any 'official' repository hold only approved and current data. 9405-44 Member bodies: Provide detailed proposals for the Oct/94 meeting on how the work on the guide for National Profiles and Locales is to be structured and completed. The Profiles section of N461, the Guide for POSIX National Profiles & National Locales, is well considered piece of work. The section on locales appears to be less mature, and it is not obvious that they necessarily belong in the same document. Given the lack of resources which WG15 member bodies have to progress the work in its current form, it may therefore be beneficial to separate the two parts and to progress them individually. If the member bodies of WG15 have insufficient resources to bring the work on the two separated sections to a conclusion, the UK suggests that the US member body asks the US development body to consider progressing the Profile section while WG20 may be interested in progressing the Locale section. 9405-45 SGFS Liaison: Forward the SGFS liaison statement incorporating WG15 resolutions 94- 269 and WG15 N470 to SGFS. Action completed. 9405-46 SGFS Liaison: Forward N496 to SGFS in response to their liaison statement. Action completed. 9405-60 SGFS Liaison: Forward WG15 resolution 94-272 to SGFS. Action completed. 9405-62 SGFS Liaison: Forward N480 to SGFS as the WG15 contribution relating to JTC1 N2527, with reference to ISO Guide 25, reference WG15 resolution 94-273. Action completed.
