Dave Cannon will also attend meeting. (Done: 25-Feb) Action completed. Meeting held on 10-May-94 (see attachment P256 for notes of the meeting). Two new actions have arisen from this meeting. Action: Richard Carr to attend SWG-CA in London, 20-22 June to explain WG15 N423 "NP on Guide on Conformance Testing Methodology (UK)". Action: Colin O'Driscoll to submit comments on ISO 10646 to WG15 at its May 94 meeting. (Open) Action carried forward for the October meeting of WG15. Feb-27: Chairman to indicate to IST/5 that the Panel does not believe FP Arithmetic Standard will adversely impact Posix. This does not imply that the Panel endorses the text (DIS 10967-1 refers). (Done: 7-Mar) Feb-27: Convenor to recommend a 'yes' on DIS 13210 (Test Methods for measuring Conformance to Posix), with the comment that the SQL Standard reference should be "........:1992". (DJ to confirm number). (Done: 7-Mar) Feb-27: Chairman to check status of David Ferbrache as the prospective Security Rapporteur. (Done: 3-Mar-94) David Ferebreche has agreed to act as the Security Rapporteur. Feb-27: Chairman to check whether Greger Leijonhufvud is able to continue as the Internationalisation Rapporteur. (Done: 3-Mar-94) Greger Leijohnufuad is content to remain the IST/5/-/15 Internationlisation Rapporteur. However, as he is cuurently based in Canada (and communicates with the Panel by E-Mail only), it may not be practicable for him to continue in the role. Feb-27: Panel members are requested to offer technical comments on P237 (Possible UK-English Posix Locale) in order to ensure its accuracy. No comments received on P237. Action continues. Feb-27: Chairman to check with IST/5 whether "UK-English Posix Locale" is to be a UK Work Item. (Done: 7-Mar) "UK English Posix Locale" is not to be a UK Work Item. However, X/Open have asked, via the BSI, for the paper to be made available to them. Feb-27: Chairman to advise IST/5 that there should be a "ranking" of eligible panels so that those considered to be doing more commercially important work have have greater access to travel funds than others. (Done: 7-Mar) IST/5 have declined to establish a "ranking". They are not permitted to within the existing rules. Feb-27: Rob Smith to produce a short paper (~1 page) on "IT Spend and the Requirement for Applications Conformance Testing" for submission to the Panel. The intention would be to use this as a lever with the suppliers and testing authorities. Rob Smith action completed (see attachment P255 for details). The paper is to be forwarded to WG15 as an IST/5/-/5 document stating the views of a major IT user on Application Conformance Tesing Action: Convener to forward Rob Smith's Paper on "Requirement for Applications Conformance Testing" (P255) to WG15 with an appropriate pre-amble to indicate that it represents IST/5/-/15 views, and that the NHS annual IT spend runs into multiple millions of pounds. (RS to forward text to DC by email). (Done: 7-Jul) Feb-27: Consider alternative dates for the August meeting at the next IST/5/-/15 meeting. The next meeting of the POSIX Panel is to be held on 30-Sep-94. Action: Convener to arrange change of August meeting date to 30-Sep-94 with Lyn Jenkins, BSI, and advise IST/5/-/15 by email/post of the new date and venue. (Done: 3-Jun-94) 4. Progress of ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG15: P247 . Consideration of ISO ballots: P251 . Actions: There are no actions with regard to this item. The UK has voted "yes" in the ISO ballot for DIS 13210 (see attachment P251) . Status Report of SC22/WG15, P247 . Actions: P246 WG15 action items on the UK from the Tokyo May/94 meeting are as follows: 9405-15 Member bodies: Member bodies to contribute national profiles that they have developed to RIN and WG20 (open action item Paris-07, 9310-26) This action is effectively duplicated in 9405-17 (below) for IST/5/-/15's attention: Action: 9405-17 United Kingdom: Provide a national profile to RIN and WG20 or provide a progress report on 9405-15 to WG15 by the Oct/94 meeting. [This action continues. IST/5-/15 is in the process of producing a UK-English locale, and interest has been expressed in a Welsh locale. These may be developed into a full national profile at some unspecifiable future date]. 9405-19 Member bodies: Identify participants in the 9945-1 and 9945-2 interpretations process. Representatives should be identified to the Convenor via eMail as soon as possible (open action item 9310-37). No nominees from IST/5/-/15 apart from Andrew Josey (who is already involved, as interpretations chair). Action: 9405-21 United Kingdom: Review draft 8 of 2003.2 and comment to RGCT for discussion at the Oct/94 meeting. This action continues. Action: 9405-23 Member bodies: Comment to WG15 RIN draft position on ISO 10646 impact on POSIX standards (open action item 9310-47). This action continues. The action on Colin O'Driscoll (above) refers. 9405-29 Member bodies: Review and comment on the project management format contained in N486. The IST/5/-/15 view was that the format was acceptable and should be given a trial. Action: 9405-42 Member bodies: Determine the feasibility of working with CEN as documented in N444 for the registry of POSIX national profiles, locales and charmaps for discussion at the Oct/94 meeting [This action continues. The (inconclusive) discussion noted that CEN was an appropriate repository for such items, but the mechanism for establishing and maintaining a dialog between SC22/WG15 and CEN was unclear to the group. This will be revisited at the next meeting of IST/5/-/15] 9405-44 Member bodies: Provide detailed proposals for the Oct/94 meeting on how the work on the guide for National Profiles and Locales is to be structured and completed. Action: Convener to speak to Peter Owens (RG CPA Rapporteur) for his views on how the work on the guide for National Profiles and Locales is to be structured and completed. (WG15 AI 9405-44 refers). Resolutions: P248 The document was noted. 5. Progress of IEEE PASC Posix WGs . Consideration of IEEE ballots: . Status Report of IEEE PASC: P249 The Convener has produced a report on the IEEE meeting of April 1994, on behalf of the JNT, which he will forward by E-Mail to members of the POSIX Panel. (DC a gave verbal report of the progress of the IEEE PASC 'Distributed Services' groups at their April meeting). Action: DC to forward the IEEE PASC report, produced for the JNT, to the IST/5/-/15 email distribution list. (Done: 30-May) 6. Rapporteur Groups: . Report of Security RG (DF) Convener reported that this RG was about to be closed down. P248 refers. . Report of Verification RG (CO'D) There was a very brief meeting of RGCT at WG15 Tokyo, chaired by Roger Martin in the place of Jerry Powell, who was unable to attend. . Report of Internationalisation RG (GL) This group produced a number of resolutions and actions which were processed by WG15 Plenary and have been dealt with under Agenda item 4 'Status Report of SC22/WG15', above. . Report of Profile Coordination RG (PO) There was no meeting of RGCPA at WG15, Tokyo. 7. Liaison with other Standards Committees and Panels: . Action: Convener to reply to IST/-/2's query on Posix National Profiles (P250), by a covering letter pointing to the relevant portions of P254. (Done: 3-Jun-94) . Any Other Business Convener referred to the new DTI ruling that University personnel would not be eligible for funding for travel, etc. He said that this could affect his role as Chairman of the POSIX Panel. The meeting agreed that the views of the Panel would be best represented if the Chairman were able to undertake the necessary travel to meetings.
