ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG15 (Posix) Meeting, Tokyo, Japan May 1994 Meeting Report 1. Introduction: Fourteen delegates from five member countries attended the thirteenth meeting of WG15 in Tokyo. The countries represented were Canada, Denmark, Japan, the UK and the USA. Attendance of the European countries was reduced by the distance and costs involved in travelling to the venue. The agenda included sixty-six action items together with sixty papers for consideration. The Plenary was preceded on the 9th and 10th of May by meetings of WG15's Rapporteur Groups on: . Internationalisation . Conformance Testing . Security 2. Plenary 2.1 TR10000 Concerns: The UK raised some concerns with the current scope of the SGFS TR10000-3 document, essentially that in its current form it appeared it might prevent the inclusion of certain Posix base standards as members of profiles. The UK delegation included Jeremy Tucker, chair of EWOS EG-OSE, who was able to give the background to the TR10000-3 process and structure. The specific problems that the UK saw with TR10000-3 were then outlined. WG15 determined that the definition of API in TR10000 needed to be generalised to allow application-to-application interfaces, as in things like XA, etc, and the meeting resolved to produce a liaison statement to SGFS indicating the form of words for the term API which TR10000-3 should adopt in order to permit the family of Posix standards to fit. The UK delegation believes the WG15 recommendation, while avoiding the problems of defining Platform Internal Interfaces (PIIs) within TR10000, addresses the concerns it raised. 2.2 Work Items: A draft on Posix Batch Services is available, but currently has an incorrect SC22 registration relating it to system administration, while it is really an amendment of the shell and utilities (9945-2) standard. WG15 resolved to ask SC22 for a division of work item to correct this, and allow the work to proceed. A draft on Posix Software Administration, reference 22.21.03.04, is in the process of being distributed to WG15 and SC22 for review and comment. A User Administration draft, reference 22.21.03.05, will be circulated to WG15 in a few weeks for review and comment of scope and purpose only. Draft 16.1 of The Guide to the POSIX OSE, reference 22.38 (SC22 N1499), is proposed for PDTR registration. Draft 17 will be produced by August. WG15 resolved to accept WG15 N479 as the disposition of comments for the PDTR registration ballot. The DIS 13210 ballot on CD 13210 Test methods, reference 22.37, was noted as closing on 27-Jul-94. The JTC1 NP ballot for Test methods for 9945-1:1990, reference 22.xx, closes on 20-May-94. 2.3 Posix IEEE/ISO Synchronisation Plan: Following concerns expressed at the October 1993 meeting by Denmark on shortcomings of the IEEE PASC/ISO WG15 Synchronisation plan, the United States brought forward a proposal for its revision which was intended to resolve the problems. An ad hoc group (initial members Denmark, United States, Japan, Canada, UK) chaired by Jon Spencer (US) was formed to develop the recommendations in the proposal. The work of this ad hoc will be conducted via eMail, with the report due at the October 1994 meeting of WG15. WG15 Plenary produced sixty-five action items, (twelve of which will require the attention of BSI's IST/5/-/15), plus eighteen resolutions. 3.
