			 Posix Panel Activity Report
			       8 September 1993

	The Panel has not met  since the last meeting of IST/5: its next
	meeting is on Friday, 10-September.

	The major item	of news  regarding Posix  is the approval of the
	9945-2	(Shell and Utilities)  DIS document by 21 votes to 1.  A
	Disposition  of  Comments meeting  was held  in July at the IEEE
	Posix	meetings  in  Denver.	 The  proposed	Disposition,  as
	emailed  by the  project  editor  Hal Jesperson,  was  to  be as
	follows:

	"In their  October  1992 meeting, the member bodies of WG15 gave
	clear  guidance  on  the  development  path  for  9945-2.   They
	requested that the DIS be approved  as an IS as soon as possible
	and  that  open  technical  issues  be	deferred  to  the  first
	amendment,  which  also  should be approved as soon as possible.
	Therefore, [it	was decided  that] the appropriate course [would
	be   to]   submit   IEEE  Std  1003.2-1992  as	the  IS;  a  few
	insignificant  editorial  changes  (page headers,  front matter,
	etc.)  would be  required and the IEEE	would simply reprint the
	new version,  but  the	editorial changes would be sufficient to
	dispose of  a number of  the DIS comments.  This choice approves
	the IS	immediately,  accounts	for all  open issues  in changed
	informative annexes, and requires no IEEE balloting delays.  The
	US development	body should  adopt all	the open  issues for its
	P1003.2b  work and bring that work forward  as a CD Amendment to
	9945-2 as soon as possible."
