Could you please circulate them to the Panel members in time for the meeting. Many thanks, Yours, Dave Cannon The Posix panel has been requested by Lawrie Schonfelder (Chair of IST/5) to invite interested members of the various BSI IST/n committees to the next Posix panel to discuss potential overlap of effort and establish any necessary liasons. I would be grateful if you would refresh your memories of all known current liasons (and any other relevant information) prior to the meeting! Dave Cannon The text of Lawrie's message follows: I went to the IST/-/1 meeting last week and there were two items of note for us: 1. there will be a DISC general meeting for IST/- and technical committee members on March 21st. 2. there was considerable concern about the POSIX work items. The fact that major items of work appeared to be being added to the programme as addenda or modifications of existing WIs without going through the proper NWI procedure was a cause for concern, particularly since a number of these items have considerable overlap and potential conflict with work already in place in other SCs 21/18/6 and possibly 31. There was a request for the POSIX panel to convene a meeting involving interested parties from the above IST committees to discuss possible liaison issues. I suggest that the relevant chairmen be invited to the next meeting of the POSIX panel. Lawrie Dominic Dunlop has requested that the Panel consider two issues related to internationalisation concerns at the meeting on the 22-February. Details of the request follow. Dave Cannon Cornelia, Please add an agenda item for discussion of two international- ization-related issues at the 22nd February UK POSIX Panel meeting: 1. UK position on proposed resolution of comments relating to the need fully to implement internationalization features in IEEE P1003.2 (to be proposed as CD 9945-2, or similar). (It would aid the discussion if you could formally invite Greger Leijonhufvud of Interactive Systems, High Wycombe to attend to comment on this issue.) 2. UK position on Unicode, a 16-bit ``fixed width'' coded character set being developed for worldwide use by a consortium composed mainly of U.S. hardware and software suppliers. -- Dominic Dunlop
