Opening of Meeting Keld Simonsen welcomed rapporteurs to this last RIN meeting, as WG15 has resolved to dissolve RIN. 1.1 Selection of Chair, Secretary & Drafting committee Keld Simonsen - Chair (DK) David Cannon - Secretary (UK) 1.2 Introduction and Rollcall of rapporteurs David Blackwood Ca Keld Simonsen DK Nobuo Saito J Herman Weegenaar Nl David Cannon UK Barry Needham USA 1.3 Temporary and permanent document number assignment 1.4 Adoption of Agenda and allocation of documents to Agenda N155r The members of the meeting identified a number of agenda items which would not need to be visited, since they had been addressed in the joint RIN/WG15 plenary session. 1.5 Approval of minutes N154r2 The minutes were adopted as presented in N154r2 1.6 Administrative issues WG15 at its plenary meeting, 20-23 May 1996, resolved to terminate the activities of its Rapporteur Group on Internationalisation (RIN). A final RIN meeting was charged with the task of closing RIN's remaining work in as orderly a manner as possible. Outstanding actions and documents were to be identified and raised as WG15 items. 2. Action item Reports, N154, N169, N170, N171 9510-01 KS: Canada requested that its National Reflector address be used instead of the named person on the RIN email reflector. Done. Canada said that it had received no mail. Discussions revealed that the wrong address had been used; the problem was moot, however, since RIN has ceased as a separate entity. [Secretary's note: it may be useful for the RIN Lead Rapporteur to issue a final email to the RIN reflector stating that RIN has closed, and to invite any interested participants to join the SC22/WG15 email reflector] 9510-02 HW to check on requirement for 'substitute' by the Netherlands. Done. Not required 9510-03 Canada to check its view of the status of the 'reorder-after' Issue at the request of Denmark, and to report back to the next WG15 meeting. Done. See N171. This was discussed in the joint RIN/WG15 plenary session. 9510-04 DK to supply an input paper to Issue 6 within 6 months or the Issue will be closed. (on characterset support, before the next WG15 meeting). Open. This action to be passed on to WG15. 9510-05 Japan to check if the reference to IS 9899:1995 would satisfy their requirements for MSE support in 9945-1, and to report their findings back to WG15. Done. This would not satisfy their requirements. Action is being handled in WG15, and was debated in the joint RIN/WG15 plenary session. 9510-06 KS to investigate the possibility of having the latest versions of the 9945-1 standard reference the 9899:1995 C standard, including the MSE addendum. Done. This action has been taken up in WG15, following the joint RIN/WG15 plenary session. 9510-07 Lead Rapporteur to investigate the availability of expertise to apply to the problem of regular expressions within 1003.2x and to report back to WG15 at its October 1996 meeting. Open. The meeting thought that it may have been premature to close the RIN regexp Issue. Holding this action open is intended to allow WG15 to re-visit that problem. 9510-08 Rapporteurs to review and respond to the parts of N158 which address the LC_COLLATE proposal, with specific attention to whether it can be resolved by changes only to the localedef specification, or whether changes to the API are required in order to handle the proposed localedef extension. Done. The action has been transferred to WG15 following the discussions in the joint RIN/WG15 plenary session. 9510-09 Add the section on LC_COLLATE in N158 into the Issues list. Done. 9510-10 Rapporteurs to review and respond to the Japanese proposal for LC_CTYPE extension for locale-specific character mapping in N158. Done. This action has been transferred to WG15 following the discussions in the joint RIN/WG15 plenary session. 9510-11 Add the Japanese proposal for LC_CTYPE extension for locale- specific character mapping to the Issues list as Issue 15. Done. 9510-12 US to request clarification on the COPY issue from the US development body dealing with .2b and report back to RIN. Open. Partly covered in RIN on tuesday. BN indicated that Don Cragun responded to this in the RIN/WG15 joint plenary session. 9510-13 Character concepts in POSIX [N441] to be added to the issues list as Issue 16. [It is believed that the Japanese MB has submitted further papers on this subject, eg WG15 N372 - these to be added to the history of this Issue] Done. 9510-14 Action on US, Denmark and Japan to consider the proposal in N160 re the WIDTH... statements, with attention to whether WIDTH... should be handled in the locale as in the N160 proposal, or as represented in 1003.2b D11. Done. 9510-15 Add Issue 17 to describe the DS perceived problem with range expressions in .2b D11. N160 2.8 o 5 refers. Doing. The joint RIN/WG15 plenary session actioned DC and KS to confer off-line and to add missing text to RIN SD-3's Issue 17. WG15 resolved that the open issues in RIN SD-3 were to be transferred to the WG15 SD-3. This RIN Issue 17 is one of those open issues. 9510-16 KS to add a paragraph to N146r indicating that UTF-8 addresses many of the problems raised in N621. The revised paper to be circulated by email for comment and then passed to WG15. Done. WG15 N658 (RIN N146r2): Use of IS 10646 in POSIX Interfaces is the subject of a WG15 Action item. 9510-17 KS and HW to work together on potential solutions to the Symbolic letter problem, as characterised in N145, and report back to RIN in May 1996 on their findings. Open. 3. Review/approval of Resolutions, Action Items and Issues list The meeting produced no resolutions. The RIN SD-3 (Issues list) is the subject of WG15 actions requiring it to be split into two documents, reflecting the sets of open and closed issues. The 'closed issues' list is to become a permanent WG15 document, the 'open issues' are to be subsumed into the WG15 SD-3 issues list. The meeting produced no new action items, but recommends that WG15 takes the following set of open RIN actions and process them as WG15 actions: 9605-01 DK to supply an input paper to RIN Issue 6 within 6 months or the Issue will be closed. RIN further recommends that the actions identified as 9605-01 to 9605-04 inclusive, (presented above), be passed to WG15 for processing as WG15 actions. 6. Closing Procedures 6.1 Future meeting considerations -- agenda, request for invitations This agenda item is no longer relevant. 6.2 Thanks to host RIN thanked Keld Simonsen and Dansk Standard for hosting this meeting in Copenhagen, and the Gentofte Hotel for allowing use of its facilities for this group at short notice. RIN would like to thank the RIN Lead Rapporteur for his work and guidance throughout RIN's existence and for his extensive input. RIN further thanks WG15 for its indulgence and support.
