From: ajosey@rdg.opengroup.org (Andrew Josey) Date: Tue, 7 Apr 1998 16:15:58 +0100 Subject: (SC22WG15.1234) The Open Group Liaison report to WG15 , April 1998 ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG15 N Title: The Open Group liaison report to WG15, April 1998 Date: 1998-04-07 Source: The Open Group liaison to WG15 Authors: Andrew Josey, Martin Kirk, The Open Group Action: For Information Response to Action Items: ------------------------- AI 9710-28: Members of The Open Group's Base Working have indicated that they are preparing a white paper on handling the Euro. Regarding SC22WG15.1206, the proposal for handling the Euro from Denmark, The Open Group has serious concerns about the technical proposal , these concerns were raised in the Shell & Utilities working group at the PASC meeting in Ft Lauderdale. In addition, the timeframe for adoption of the Euro is such that standardization will not be timely. AI 9710-33: Regarding R97-383 The Open Group respectfully points out that the information is already in place within all of The Open Group's publications. See the "Referenced Documents" section within the front matter of each published document (these are the PDF documents on the CD-ROM) See the Referenced Documents section within the book that accompanies the CD-ROM (you'll need to go to the bookstore for that). Also see the Copyright information and sections entitled "Relationship to Formal Standards". Comments on other matters within WG15 -------------------------------------- Re: SC22WG15.1205 Withdrawal of Security The Open Group suggests that WG15 withdraw the work items. Cooperation with PASC/WG15 --------------------------- The PASC Interpretations Functional chair (supported by The Open Group) has upgraded the web input system for IEEE PASC Interpretations so that they use the ISO Form 14 for defect reporting. These are now being regularly forwarded to the WG15 mailing list for the attention of the ISO Project Editors. All WG15 participants are invited to join the interpretations mailing lists (send email to a.josey@opengroup.org). The technical editor for P1003.1a attended the most recent Base Working group meeting as an invited expert. The working group reviewed P1003.1a/D14 and produced The Open Group institutional ballot (see http://www.opengroup.org/platform/crb.html). The Base working group is receptive to working further with the P1003.1 working group as the development of P1003.1a proceeds . An Institutional ballot was also returned for the latest draft of IEEE PASC Draft standards P2000.1 UNIX 98 Status -------------- The Open Group expects to announce availability of the first UNIX 98 products (the mark for conformance to Version 2 of the Single UNIX Specification) during late May 1998. Distributed Software Administration - DCE Interoperability ---------------------------------------------------------- We recently received confirmation from ISO that The Open Group's specification: 'Distributed Software Administration - DCE Interoperability' has passed its ballot to become an International Standard. It will be IS 15879: Information Technology - System Management - Distributed Software Administration - DCE Interoperability (XDSA/DCE). Votes of twenty countries were counted, and they were unanimous in approving the document. One country asked for an editorial change to the list of referenced documents, and we will respond positively to the request. Otherwise the International Standard will have no change from The Open Group specification. This work is complementary to IS 15068-2 (POSIX Systems Administration: Software Administration) which went through WG15. --------------- Andrew Josey Martin Kirk The Open Group Tel: +44 118 9508311 Fax: +44 118 9500110 OSF/1, Motif, UNIX and the "X" device are registered trademarks in the US and other countries, and IT DialTone and The Open Group are trademarks of The Open Group.
