WG15 N688 October 24, 1996 U.S. ACTION ITEM REPORT 9605-03 Investigate the ready availability of the text in electronic form for the most complete merged copy of 1003.1 and integrated amendments and corrigenda, and transfer the text to Denmark if it is available. (9510-16) CLOSED US has requested that the electronic form of the 1003.1 text be transmitted to Denmark as soon as possible. It is scheduled to be sent the week of October 28, 1996. --------------- 9605-08 Forward the appropriate draft of IEEE P1003.1g as ISO/IEC 9945-1 Amendment for Protocol Independent Interfaces (JTC1.22.21.01.03.03) to the SC22 secretariat for PDAM registration and ballot. (R 95-317, 9510-41) CLOSED Draft 12 of this document was forwarded and is currently in PDAM registration and ballot which closes 12/96. The US notes that a technical problem has been identified in the PDAM ballot which will require update of the IEEE Standard. The project editor should work with the IEEE to resolve this problem . --------------- 9605-09 Forward the appropriate draft of IEEE P1003.1a as ISO/IEC 9945-1 Amendment for System Interface Extensions (JTC1.22.39) to the SC22 secretariat for PDAM registration only. (R 95- 323) CLOSED The document (draft 12) has been forwarded. PDAM ballot closes 12/96. --------------- 9605-11 Forward the current draft of IEEE P2003 to EWOS/EG-CT Expert Group for information CLOSED The document has been forwarded. --------------- 9605-12 Respond to IDI to indicate interest, e-mail, and address for the HoDs interested in receiving access to the PASC electronic distibution of materials. CLOSED --------------- 9605-14 Provide comments to the convenor on documents N633 and N634 regarding conformity assessment plans and interoperability before August 1 for input to the SC22 meeting. CLOSED WG15 TAG N596 prepared and submitted to convenor, July, 1996. --------------- 9605-16 Make all working drafts from the development body available in a manner consistent with the JTC1 on-line access policy. OPEN At its Plenary Session in Sydney (March 1996), JTC1 passed Resolution 32A outlining its policy on electronic distribution of standards-development documents, to make them freely available up to, but not including the DIS stage. However, it was also recognized that JTC1 must abide by the policies of its parent organizations, ISO and IEC. At the time of that Plenary, ISO policy required controlled access of such documents. Accordingly, JTC1 passed a second part of Resolution 32A requesting ISO and IEC to consider change in their policy so that the first part of the resolution could be implemented. This topic was expected to be a point of discussion at the meeting of the JTC1 adhoc group on IT Implementation at the end of September, 1996. In the meantime, the U.S. does not believe it is feasible to make all working drafts available to an unspecified, but controlled, audience. The U.S. therefore proposes to defer implementing this action item until ISO/IEC policy has been clarified. --------------- 9605-17 Report to the convener if they have volunteers for representing SC22 in the GII working group. CLOSED The US does not have a candidate for this position. --------------- 9605-19 Recommend people as project editors for the following areas: Ada, OSE, and Profiles. CLOSED The US plans to nominate Ted Baker as Ada project editor and Jim Oblinger as Profiles project editor. The US does plan to nominate an OSE project editor. --------------- 9605-20 Find out what happened to the defect reports (see SC22 N1236 and WG15 N676), distribute them to WG15, and invite Andrew Josey (PASC Functional Chair of Interpretations) to attend one of our WG15 meetings since he is the internationally recognized expert for this material. CLOSED The defect reports were not generated. Andrew Josey has agreed to attend part of the Oct. 1996 WG15 meeting to discuss these issues. --------------- 9605-21 Look for a solution to the problem of extended identifiers in 1003.2 (from RIN issue 0) and report back. CLOSED The IEEE P1003.2 Working Group provided the following response to this action item: As reported in IEEE P1003.2/N9603 (IEEE PASC/N584), dated 1996-01-17, we are not aware of any reasonable way to meet this requirement for arbitrary identifiers when users are allowed to define locales and codeset definitions as provided by the POSIX.2 localedef utility. In the six months since that report was prepared, we have still not been made aware of any reasonable way to do this. We know of no solution to this problem short of having the affected utilities rebuild themselves (especially their lexical anlyzers) from source at execution time whenever invoked with a new locale. Even if source licensing arrangements did not make this prohibitively expensive, we do not believe this to be a reasonable solution to the problem of recognizing extended characters in a codeset in identifiers in the mini-languages defined by POSIX.2 --------------- 9605-26 Provide the expected date for TFA to go to concurrent PDAM registration and ballot. OPEN Draft 8.1 of P1003.1j (TFA) has been submitted for PDAM registration, but the US notes that this draft is not ready for PDAM ballot. The PASC/SEC is expected to discuss continued sponsorship of the TFA project at the January 1997 meeting. WG15 members are requested to send comments on the market relevance of this work to the WG15 reflector by the end of December, 1996. --------------- 9605-31 Provide an electronic version of the POSIX 1003.13 profiles presentation to put on the WG15 web page. CLOSED An electronic copy of the presentation was sent to the WG15 webmaster. --------------- 9605-32 Provide a summary of the option annexes in the POSIX standards to be put on the WG15 web page. OPEN The material is currently under development and is expected to be available in the near future. --------------- 9605-34 Provide the latest drafts of 1003.10 and 1003.13 for evaluation of consistency with TR-10000, and send out the required cover material (the "explanatory report") for WG15 review and comment. OPEN This work has been reassigned, but not yet completed. It will be provided as soon as possible. --------------- 9605-37 Provide the Batch Services document P1003.2d to ITTF. CLOSED The US has forwarded a request to IEEE to transmit the Batch Services standard to ITTF. --------------- 9605-38 V erify that the correct draft of 1003.2d (12.2 vs 13) was circulated to ISO for ballot. (DAM ballot for this closes July 21). CLOSED The wrong draft was circulated. The US recommends that this be handled by the project editor. --------------- 9605-40 Communicate information on non width space and soft hyphen to internationalization experts for comment. CLOSED The US has no input or recommendations on this issue. --------------- 9605-42 Forward P1387.2 and P1387.3 to JTC1 secretariat for DIS balotting as soon as practicable. CLOSED/OPEN IEEE 1387.2 has been forwared. IEEE P1387.3 will be forwarded when ready. --------------- 9605-43 Verify that normative reference to the new C Language Standard and Amendments does not cause any problems with 9945-1 and 9945-2. CLOSED The are no normative references to the new C standard and there is no need for such. --------------- 9605-44 Advise the convener on the status of the P2003 revision of IEEE 1003.3 CLOSED P2003 revision is currently in PASC recirculation ballot. --------------- 9605-46 Have technical experts identify any specific elements of the Single Unix Specification that should be included in POSIX. CLOSED The US member body has asked relevant experts on the Single UNIX Specification, and the PASC SEC to consider if there are additional interfaces from the X/Open Single UNIX Specification that should be considered for inclusions in the POSIX standards space at this time. The PASC SEC reported that while it would entertain project requests in this space, there are none active (outside of the completing P1003.1a, P1003.1g, and P1003.2b that contain symlinks, and sockets/XTI related definitions). (PASC SEC N627) --------------- 9605-49 Provide assistance with the LIS PAR to be revised. OPEN The draft PAR writeup has not been received. The US will provide assistance when needed. --------------- 9605-57 Invite the development body for proposed work on the Guidelines for POSIX National Profiles and National Locales to hold one of its meetings each year in conjunction with the first WG15 meeting of the year (R96-336).
