The USNB votes to approve the PDAM Ballot with the procedural comment below. Best regards, Michelle Maas For the US P-member of JTC 1/SC22 Comments on ballot for SC22 N2062 The USNB would point out that the version of this PDAM document that is subsequently registered for DAM ballot should be identical with the version approved by the IEEE in order to comply with the approved JTC 1/ SC22 Synchronization Plan." ____________________________________________________________________________ COMMENTS ACCOMPANYING THE NEGATIVE BALLOT FROM THE NETHERLANDS >From C.Pronk@twi.tudelft.nl Subject: Re: Netherlands Votes ...................................................... N2062 PDAM to ISO/IEC 9945-1 IT - Portable Operating System Interface (POSIX) Part 1: Systems Application Program Interface (API) Amendment 3: Protection, Audit and Control Interfaces (C Language) 96-05-30, APPROVAL FOR THE REGISTRATION, NO WITH COMMENT FOR THE DRAFT. ...................................................... Comments: Although we have noticed that much progress has been accomplished in these documents vs the '91 and '92 versions, the Netherlands votes No on the Draft for the following reasons: 1/ The main problem used to be the limited scope in functionality, strictly oriented towards the Orange Book / Military environment. The current approach is much broader and offers, in our view, sufficient functionality. The only difficult part to judge is the 'Audit-functionality' since this part lacks an overall view on audit-functions (or: an audit-architecture); it merely describes some I/O-functions that, perhaps, could be used in the audit process. 2/ The second problem of concern have been the assurance aspects. The key question here is how the combined architecture will look like and how the embedding in the operational system will take place (in which many more interfaces may reside and in which information and services may be available through different channels). Although this problem seems to be recognised (conformance, trust), it is not tackled yet. 3/ The old problem of mapping the functionality described in the Framework and the Interface specifications remains. It is far from clear that these documents represent the same functionality, now or in the future. The correspondence between the two should somehow be pointed out. The Netherlands wants the points 1/ and 2/ above to be considered, perhaps by adding them to the list of issues under consideration. Additionally, the Netherlands wants issue 3/ to be resolved. Acceptance/resolving of these issues will turn our vote into a yes-vote.
