Proposal for a New Work Item


Title:	  International Standardized Profiles developed by SC22.

Scope:	  To initiate projects within SC22 for the development of OSE ISPs.
	  These ISPs should primarily (but not necessarily exclusively) be
	  based on (i.e. refer to) SC22 base standards or ISPs.

Programme of work:
	  One or more ISPs and/or ISP parts, to be developed under
	  subdivisions of this Work Item.

Relevant documents to be considered:
	  TR 10000, JTC 1 N3232

Co-operation and liaison:
	  SGFS and other SCs and/or WGs as appropriate.

Preparatory Work offered with target date(s):
	  It is to be expected that shortly after approval of this Work
	  Item, a first subdivision will be proposed to SC22 by SC22/WG15
	  to work on ISPs for the POSIX standards.  Within the IEEE, work
	  is progressing on these POSIX profiles.

Comments and recommendations to the JTC1 Secretariat:
	  When approved, to be assigned to SC22

Justification:
	  According to the JTC 1 Directives it is possible for JTC 1 SCs to
	  submit ISPs to SGFS.	In document JTC 1 N3232 a set of Guidelines
	  (defining synchronization points between the SC process and the
	  SGFS process) are given.

	  This Work Item conforms to the Work Item as mentioned in
	  Guideline 1 of N3232.

	  Work Items to initiate the actual work on ISPs will be
	  subdivisions of this Work Item, and will be proposed to SC22 on a
	  case by case basis (Guideline 2).

	  For each individual ISP, a justification will be given with the
	  proposal for subdivision of work.
