SC22/WG15 N460 Apr. 7, 1994 Source: Japan Title: Japanese proposal on having consultative letter ballot within WG15 for better synchronization Status: Japanese position Short description: Japan proposes for WG15 to have a couple of consultative letter ballots within WG15, before proceeding every draft POSIX standard, developed by WG15, to CD registration ballot at SC22 level. Text of contribution: Although ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG15 has a good synchronization plan with ANSI/IEEE POSIX Working Group, sometimes the comments contributed from WG15 members at CD registration ballot have not been well reflected to the CD due to the delayed inputs for IEEE ballot disposition meeting. According to JTC1 directive, CD registration means that the exit of WG stage. Therefore all the comments within WG15 should be resolved before registration of the CD. Note that CD registration ballot is SC level, not WG level. To establish better synchronization with POSIX standardization work in ANSI and better disposition of international comments to POSIX standards, Japan proposes to have consultative letter ballot within WG15 to every POSIX standards at least two times before the registration ballot of the proposed CD. So that members of WG15 have a chance to input their comments officially at least two times before the CD registration ballot. Japan believes the consultative ballot should be synchronized with a ballot within ANSI/IEEE, but at least 3 months ballot period would be required, since official distribution of ISO documents would usually take long time within a NB, in the worst case of Japan, it had taken two months unfortunately.
