I received the following, from Jim Moore, via the WG9 e-mail list. It is one of the resolutions passed by WG9 at their meeting last week, in Villars, Switzerland. I am forwarding it for your information, as a a liaison report to WG15 US TAG, and WG15. --Ted Baker | 31. Resolution regarding POSIX.4a | | To the chairman of ISO-IEC JTC1/SC22: | | WG9 is concerned that the process for international input | and coordination of POSIX standards is flawed. Currently, | the responsibility for coordination is delegated to the | United States member body and ultimately to the level of the | IEEE working group. There is evidence that this method for | coordination is not working properly. In particular, the | coordination ballot transmitted from P1003.5 (POSIX/Ada) to | P1003.4 (POSIX real time) regarding the P1003.4a (POSIX | threads) draft has not been handled in a satisfactory | manner. The result may be a situation where Ada | applications may not run on systems compliant with P1003.4a | and where applications compliant with P1003.5 will not | interoperate with applications compliant with P1003.4a. | Since it is of crucial importance that the separate parts of | the POSIX suite of standards be mutually compatible to the | greatest possible degree, this is a matter of some urgency. | WG9 asks that SC22 take steps to rectify this situation | prior to the registration of the P1003.4a document as a | Committee Draft. | | Copies to: | John Hill, US TAG for SC22 | Jim Isaak, convener of WG15 | Lorraine Kevra, US TAG for WG15 | Jim Isaak, chair of IEEE PASC | Jim Lonjers, chair of IEEE P1003.5 | Bill Corwin, chair of IEEE P1003.4
