UK MB Report to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG15 9-13 May 1993 Tokyo, Japan Response to WG15 actions on the UK MB: 9310-01 UK National Body to further scope the work required as defined in N347 (open action item 9305-01) Done. (Draft NP circulated at WG15 October '93 meeting). The new draft expands the scope section and identifies deliverable as a TR rather than an IS. 9310-07 SGFS Liaison: Forward document WG15/N297 (P1003.0 Draft 15), document WG15/N164 (P1003.18 Draft 3) to SGFS. (Resolution 209).(open action item 9210-48, 9305-19) Done. The draft has reached SGFS, and has been revised as Draft 16.1. 9310-14 Member Bodies: Review N375 to determine status and report back to next WG15 meeting. (open action item 9305-28) Mostly Done(!): These are the open action items from the Paris and Rotterdam meetings, and are enumerated elsewhere. 9310-24 Member Bodies: Host for spring 1996 WG15 meeting is required. Volunteers are requested to supply an official invitation to the Convener. (open action item 9305-65) Open. 9310-26 Member Bodies to contribute national profiles that they have developed to RIN and to WG20. (open action item Paris 007) Open. The UK is investigating the possibility of developing a Welsh national profile and will pass any profile derived from this work to WG15 RIN and WG20. 9310-27 Member Bodies to review and comment on the taxonomy in the EWOS Technical Guide on Profiles for the OSE (EWOS/TA/81/68, WG15 N165). (open action item Rotterdam 003) Closed. Overcome by time. While the UK has some experts active in this area and undertakes to pass any comments on EWOS Profile work to WG15 as they become available, the nominated document is now three years old. 9310-37: MBs, to identify participants in the 9945-1 and 9945-2 interpretations process. Representatives should be identified to the convenor via E-mail as soon as possible. Andrew Josey (UK) is the IEEE Interpretations VC. The UK has no other participants to offer at this time. 9310-40: MBs, to review draft 8 of 2003.2 and comment to RGCT for discussion at the next meeting. Closed. The UK's two active participants in RGCT have undertaken to feed any comments they have directly into RGCT. 9310-47: WG15 Member Bodies, to comment to WG15 RIN draft position on 10646 impact on POSIX standards. Closed. No comment. 9310-60: Member bodies, to provide comment on SC22/N1417 to RGCT by April 94. Closed. Since SC22/N1417 is Draft 8 of P2003.2 this action is covered in 9310-40. 9310-65: MBs, respond to convener by the 31 Jan 94 if a secretary can be provided to the next meeting in Tokyo. Closed. Timed out. _________________________________________________________________ TR10000-3 Concerns The UK notes with some concern that there is a possibility that the scope of TR10000-3 may prevent the inclusion within OSE profiles of Platform Internal Interfaces (PIIs) as identified within P1003.0. This limitation would seriously limit the usefulness of OSE profiles, and should be avoided. The UK further notes that P1003.0 is intended merely to provide guidance on the POSIX environment, and is not a binding reference model on POSIX activities. PIIs are identified within P1003.0 as being necessary but beyond the scope of the P1003.0 guide. The definitions of interfaces within P1003.0 are imported into TR10000-3. The fact that PIIs are beyond the scope of the P1003.0 guide should not be imported to TR10000-3 and should not preclude all PIIs from inclusion in OSE profiles. Some types of PII may well be inappropriate, but many interfaces between software entities may be deemed appropriate for inclusion. Future POSIX work may involve and require the definition of such interfaces, and it is important to ensure that such interfaces can become part of OSE profiles in the future. For example, it is probable that there will be a need to define standard interfaces between application entities and parts of the management infrastructure, and also between different components of such an infrastructure. Accordingly, the UK believes that WG15 should adopt the position that PIIs should be permitted to be included in OSE profiles, and should communicate it to SGFS in the form of a liaison statement before the next SGFS meeting, in June 94, at which these issues will be discussed.
