WG15 RIN notes SC22 Resolution BQ: File System Safe-Universal Transfer Format. WG15 RIN has determined that FSS UTF (UTF-2) is a necessary prerequisite for ISO 10646 to be accommodated into the ISO 9945 POSIX family of standards. WG15 is requested to ask the US development body to reference FSS UTF (UTF-2) as a normative specification in the appropriate POSIX standard currently under development. (1003.1a or 1003.2b) Resolution RIN 9310-02: Forwarding of N387. WG15 RIN proposes that WG15 forward WG15 N387, as modified at the joint meeting of WG15's RIN and RGCPA, October 1993, together with any supportive base document that may be deemed useful (WG15 N386) to SC22 for a consultative letter ballot, and then to JTC1 for formal ballot if approved. WG15 RIN recommends that the proposed work item be progressed separately from the P1003.0 work item. Resolution RIN 9310-03: Impact of Characterset Resolutions. WG15 is requested to ask its MBs to consider the impact of SC22 draft resolutions BO, BR, BS, BT, concerned with the handling of IS 10646 on the POSIX family of standards. MBs to report problems to WG15 (RIN) for consideration at the WG15 meeting, May 1994. The drafts of the appropriate SC22 Resolutions are attached for reference: ________________________________________________________________ Resolution BO: Enabling processing of ISO/IEC 10646 data ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22 - requests its working groups to support ISO/IEC 10646- 1:1993 in their standards, and ensure that those of their standards which support character types permit the manipulation of all coded characters in ISO/IEC 10646- 1:1993; - points out that this will: (a) make all coded characters in 10646, including level 3, available for use within applications; and (b) not require the semantic interpretation of composite sequences. Resolution BR: Composite sequences of ISO/IEC 10646 ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22 - recognizes the difficulties for programming languages and supporting environments to provide support for composite sequences of ISO/IEC 10646-1:1993; and - invites member bodies to submit recommendations based on experience in this area. Resolution BS: announcement mechanisms for ISO/IEC 10646 encodings ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22 - recognizes the need for announcement mechanisms for different encodings, levels and subrepertoires within ISO/IEC 10646 (see section 17.1 of ISO/IEC 10646-1:1993, second sentence); and - encourages WG20 to establish appropriate liaison accordingly with other relevant working groups within SC2, SC21 and other JTC1 subcommittees on the issue of encoding announcement mechanisms. Resolution BT: Consistent terminology with ISO/IEC 10646 ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22 encourages its working groups - to use the terminology defined by ISO/IEC 10646-1:1993 (clause 4, " Definitions"), to adopt it, and to apply it to SC22 work where possible; and - where this is not possible, to explain terminology conflicts within the documents produced from project work items or revisions. ________________________________________________________________ Resolution RIN 9310-04: Forwarding of National Locales & Profiles. WG15 RIN requests MBs to forward their National Locales and Profiles to the RIN Lead Rapporteur for incorporation in the RIN collection. FINAL Action Items out of the WG15 RIN Meeting FINAL Annapolis, October 25-26, 1993 9310-01 Lead Rapporteur: re X/Open definition of n*() functions: distribute the n*() function specification to MBs for comment prior to input to 1003.2b. 9310-02 Member Bodies: review the P1003.0, P1003.7 and P1003.4a documents for internationalisation concerns or issues and return their comments to WG15 RIN for consideration at its May meeting, 1994. 9310-03 Lead Rapporteur: distribute N386 to the RIN MBs. MBs: consider the N386 document and comment accordingly to WG15 RIN, additionally by email if possible, before the WG15 meeting, May 1994. 9310-04 Japan: provide Japanese National Profile and Locales document to the RIN Lead Rapporteur for incorporation in the collection of Locales. Lead Rapporteur: notify RIN and RGCPA of its availability. 9310-05 Lead Rapporteur: Distribute documents N108 and N111 on registries, together with a cover note indicating which RIN Agenda Items they apply to, to MBs for information and comment. MBs: Respond to RIN in time for consideration at the WG15 meeting, May 1994. (N106 is an example of the perceived problem space). 9310-06 MBs: Consider the impact and problems associated with the support of locales by the charmap mechanism, and consider the need for the establishment of a charmap registry. Respond to RIN Lead Rapporteur prior to the WG15 meeting, May 1994. 9310-07 Lead Rapporteur: report to WG15 that RIN is considering the need and possible alternatives for charmaps and for a charmap registry. RIN is looking for technical input on whether charmaps provide the best solution to the problem. RIN notes that CEN is currently constructing a charmap registry, N113, and that WG20 may also take this approach - N111 and N112 refer. 9310-08 Lead Rapporteur: Ensure that N110 (WG15 N396) WG20 Internationalisation Framework PDTR is distributed to all RIN Rapporteurs. MBs: are requested to review and comment on this document, specifically with respect to the services proposed in the document and their impact on the Posix family of standards. 9310-09 Lead Rapporteur: distribute documents N105, N106, N109 and N113 to the RIN mailing list together with a cover note indicating that these documents will be discussed at the next WG15 RIN meeting, May 1994, and also indicating which agenda items will be touched by the documents. 9310-10 US RIN Rapporteur: re Internationalisation Concerns in 1003.2b WG15 RIN notes that the new Annex H to 9945-2 addresses the concerns of the international community, specifically of Japan and of Denmark. 9945-2 Annex H indicates that input is required from WG15 MBs on a number of specific issues and therefore WG15 RIN requests the US RIN Rapporteur to contact the document editor to obtain an indication of the latest dates by which such input is required by the US development body, in order to maintain synchronisation of the ISO/IEC and IEEE work.
