Title: comments on Danish "no" on syncronisation plan Source: Danish Standards Date: 1993-10-26 Action: for WG15 consideration at Annapolis meeting DS voted "no" at the SC22 plenary in Paris Sept 1993 to the POSIX syncronisation plan SC22 N1360 (WG15 N352r2). The problem is in 3.1.5. Here it is specified that the DIS vote and the completion IEEE vote run in parallel, and this means that there is not expected a subsequent IEEE vote after the DIS vote. Some changes considered editorial from a JTC1 point of view cannot be made according IEEE rules, and this makes the DIS vote superfluous. Considering the very few ballots at ISO level, this removes much of the control from ISO member bodies over POSIX standards. DS experienced this with the ballot on ISO/IEC DIS 9945-2. Our proposal is to enter the DIS ballot earlier in the process, at a stage where some changes are still allowed in the IEEE process. Also please note the concerns given in WG15 N381, which have not been addressed in the current syncronisation plan. -- Keld Simonsen Keld@dkuug.dk
