ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG20 N178 Title: Liaison statement from WG20 to WG15 Date: 1993-04-30 Source: WG20 Several issues related to WG15 were adressed in the WG20 Ko/benhavn meeting. In ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG15 N329, WG15 poses the following questions: 1. What is the currently proposed definition of the "Cultural Elements" WG20 is still working on the definition of the term "cultural elements" and cannot currently offer a definition. 2. What is the perceived relation between the term "cultural element" and the term "locale" in WG20's view? The perceived relation is that "cultural element" is a superset of the current POSIX definition of "locale". It will include all of the current POSIX "locale" cultural elements as well as elements not currently defined in POSIX standards, and also includes elements currently defined in POSIX standards outside of the "locale" concepts, such as the timezone and character set specifications. WG20 is committed to cover current POSIX locale specifications, but not committed on future POSIX enhancements, and WG20 encourages WG15 to ensure this coordination via ongoing liaison. -- Keld Simonsen Keld@dkuug.dk
