ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC22/WG15 N364 WG15 PROJECT EDITOR'S REPORT -- MAY 1993 Hal Jespersen This report describes progress in editorial matters and satisfaction of action items from the Reading meeting. 1. Reading Action Items: Action 9210-62: Project Editor: In consultation with the US, to report back at the May 1993 WG15 meeting on the feasibility of merging the real time extensions into 9945-1LIS before 9945-1LIS becomes an international standard taking into account the provision that this should be done without adversely affecting the progress of the existing C-language versions of P1003.4 (Real-Time Extensions) and P1003.4a (Threads). (Resolution 219). This is not complete. The US is reevaluating its LIS plans and this will be a topic elsewhere on the WG15 May agenda. Until the basic questions concerning LIS are answered, the requested report would have had no value. Action 9210-79: Project Editor: Convene a ballot resolution group in New Orleans in January 1993 in conjunction with the IEEE meeting in order to prepare a Disposition of Comments on the CD ballot of Project JTC 1 22.21.01.02, and to forward the Disposition of Comments to the WG15 Convenor, the US, and SC22. (Resolution 224) Completed. Action 9210-84: WG15 Member Bodies Consider the proposal to modify the Document Structure Plan by assigning a new number to 9945-3 and provide feedback to the Project Editor by January 31 1993. I received two positive feedback comments (from the US and the UK) and no negatives. I consider this to be adequate consensus in the working group and will take the appropriate numbering action with ITTF when a P1003.7 document is ready for CD registration. 2. Other Matters: a. I have not updated the Document Structure Plan since last year because of the uncertainties regarding the LIS situation. Draft 6, May 1992, is still current. There is still some turbulence in chapter number assignments for future 9945-1 versions and the changes in relation to Action 9210-84 still need to be made. b. IEEE Std 1003.2-1992 was approved by the IEEE Standards Board in September. The process of editorial review with the IEEE Project Editor should occur in the next few months and I hope the standard will be published officially in early 1993. There will be no normative changes in this editing process. If/when DIS 9945-2 is approved as an IS in mid-1993, I would propose using the cleaned up text in the IEEE standard as the basis for the IS.
