To: WG15 SC22/WG15/N351 From: Jim Isaak, Convenor May 4, 1993 RE: Convenor's Action Item report for May 93 WG15 meeting Convenor 7,18,19,20,28,34,35,36,37,41,42,43,45,51,52,53,54, 55,56,59,60,61,65,66,75,81,82 --------------------- Note: I've received notice from the SC22 Chair that the new JTC1 Directives do not provide for participation in WG or Rapporteur group meetings for persons other than those invited by, or representing Member Bodies or Liason organizations. We need to make sure that Member Bodies are inviting participation from organizations with which we need contact (most of our Rapporteur groups at least are affected here); and where that does not make sense, we need to determine if catagory "C" liaison is appropriate. [This should be a topic of discussion under agenda item 3.2] -------------------- Action 9210-7: Convenor: Investigate the process (rapid amendment) possibilities available to move the planned amendment to CD 9945-2 through the international process as quickly as possible and report back to WG15 at the next meeting. (open action 9205-25) The key channels available to us are: Technical Corregenda (Typically for corrections) JTC1 has also approved a concurrent CD/DAM Registration and CD/DAM Ballot process, which represents our best path for amendments. Action 9210-18: Convenor: Request that SC22 notify its working groups developing POSIX language bindings to actively participate in the development of POSIX language independent standards in order to ensure that the requirements for their language bindings are met. (open action 9205-60). Done, Aug 92; SC22 N1216 Action 9210-19: Convenor: Verify that SC22 Secretariat has received ballot responses from active WG15 members. Done, and process in place to reduce probablility of future problems. Action 9210-20: Convenor: Request SC22 Secretariat to distribute the document for response. (RIN questionaire) Done, SC22 N214 w/request for feedback in SC22 N216 Action 9210-28: Convenor: Respond to OIW expressing that request for S- Liaison is inappropriate for WG15, it should have been sent to SC22. However, it is our understanding that they are welcome to participate in WG15 Rapporteur Group meetings without such a liaison. Done, Feb 17, 93 letter Action 9210-34: Convenor: Initiate a letter ballot for the post of RGSec Lead Rapporteur, and to circulate the short qualification statements from the candidates along with the letter ballot. The letter ballot is to be initiated within 3 weeks of the October 1992 WG15 meeting. Done: delayed to do delay in getting Bio on U.S. nominee, ballot results reported to WG15 by email. Lionel Boiteau selected. Action 9210-35: Convenor: Notify SC21 and SC27 that Lionel Boiteau has been appointed as liaison from WG15. Done - SC22 Document N1275 corrected this without delay Action 9210-42: Convenor: Conduct a consultative letter ballot of SC22/WG15 to determine the acceptability of the text of WG15 N331 as an NP proposal. (Resolution 205). Done; Affirmitive: UK, Denmark, NZ, Canada, US Comments from New Zeland: "When preparing a standard the requirement is to produce a deinfinition of some product. When testing conformance to that standard there is a need to ensure traceability, rigour, provability, etc -- a field in which very few people in the world are expert. In approving this work item we STRONGLY recommend the addition of liason with such organizations as NIST in the US, NPL (DITC) in UK, TELARK in NZ, etc who -are- the sources of accreditation of test laboratories and therefore are best placed to offer guidance in the preparation of test method documentation. "We would NOT be happy if this liaison which we see as ESSENTIAL is not added to the NP -- and used heavily in practice." No Response from: France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands Russia, Austria, Australia Action 9210-43: Convenor: Forward N331 to JTC 1/SC22 as an NP proposal should the WG15 consultative ballot close with no negative ballots and with no substantive ballot comments.
