JTC1/SC22/WG15 N331 Oct. 21, 1992 Proposed by JTC1/SC22/WG15 Secretariat: ISO/IEC JTC1 Proposal for New Work Item TITLE: Standard for Information Technology -- POSIX Test Methods -- [Multipart, parallel to 9945 suite of standards, inc. test methods] Scope and Field of Application: The Standard will define test methods applicable to the development and use of conformance methodologies for ISO/IEC 9945-1, 9945-2 and 9945-3; based on ISO/IEC 13210 Purpose and Justification: Testing conformance of an implementation to a standard includes testing the claimed capabilities and behavior of the implementation with respect to the conformance requirements of the standard. These test methods are intended to provide a reasonable, practical assurance that an implementation conforms to the standards ISO/IEC 9945-1, 9945-2, and 9945-3. Program of work: A new multipart standard, paralleling the structure of the base standards (9945-x), including language binding standards which will have different assigned numbers. This work will require division of work to parallel the base documents being produced by SC22/WG15. It is recommended that this work be assigned to JTC1/SC22/WG15 under the same terms of reference and administrative procedures as the current 9945 work. Relevant documents to be considered: IEEE Draft Standards: 1003.3.1 and 1003.3.2 Liaison Organizations: SC22, SC22/WG15, IEEE Computer Society and TCOS Sponsor executive committee have agreed to a synchronization plan that will yield a common document in both the U.S. and JTC1. The proposed documents as well as others underdevelopment are consistent with this plan. Preparatory work offered with target dates: An initial part, parallel to the current IS 9945-1:1990 should be available for CD registration as soon as the NP is approved, and SC22 can authorize such action. Will service of a Maintenance agency or registration authority be required? No Nor is there any requirement for coding. No patent items have been identified. ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG15 Nxxx Jan. 7, 1993 ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG15 Letter Ballot: Please return by Feb. 19, 1993 Jim Isaak Digital Equipment, TTB1-5/G06 10 Tara Blvd. Nashua, NH 03062 (or via EMAIL: isaak@decvax.dec.com) Please indicate your National Body: __________________________ SUBJECT: Consultitive Letter Ballot on WG15 approval of WG15 N331 as a Proposal for New Work Item Title: Standard for Information Technology -- POSIX Test Methods [Based on current P1003.3.1, and P1003.3.2 work] ___ Approve ___ Disapprove (Please comment) ___ Abstain Your name:____________________________________ Are you the Head of Delegation for your National Body to WG15: ___ Yes ___ No [Note, if multiple votes are received from a single national body, the vote of the "Head of Delegation" will be counted. Once a majority position has been established, I will announce the results.] Comments: (PS: This may all be irrelevant if the IEEE votes to discontinue the requirement for Test Assertions in Posix standards when it next meets in April, - so far I've had no replies to the last mail I sent out on this (describing the deliberations of SEC at the January meeting...), but for the moment we had best assume that the work will be available for input to WG15...)
