ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG15 N141 (w/ballot & 14 attachments) To: WG15 Experts Feb. 25, 1991 From: Jim Isaak, Convenor RE: JTC1 AG Action on POSIX Division of work item BALLOT and NP documents You may recall that WG15 agreed to a division of work item back in 1988 and June of 1989, and SC22 approved that division of work item in Berlin, Sept. 1989. After review in JTC1 AG, we have been requested (by the UK and Japan) to submit new work item proposals for this work. To assist in this process, I have developed some preliminary NP documents for WG15 balloting comment. I would particularly request that the UK and Japan delegations review these to make sure that they are responsive to the concerns raised by your delegates to JTC1 AG. It is my understanding that every document requires a NWI/NP. As such, we need a fairly large number. I have not included NWI's for the Batch work, since it is likely that this can be combined with the initial 1003.7 work when it is moved forward to the CD level. I have also not included the RPC work as IEEE has not identified any additional work beyond that being done in SC21 at this time. Note that in this process I have combined .4 and .4a together, which may not be a good idea. Also I have divided .6 as it affects 9945-1 from that which affects 9945-2 since the document does impact both, and I'm not sure if a single addendum can do that (change two parts of a multipart document). I am initiating a letter ballot on this text, so that we can come into the May meeting with comments, resolve these in the meeting and forward the results on to SC22. Please do obtain feedback from your JTC1 AG folks to make sure this will address the expectations they have. I have also provided a "Forward to JTC1" column on the ballot. We may feel that some of these can be deferred until a later WG15 meeting for action (or even approved by WG15 now, but held for forwarding until some other events occur). Please comment on any such recommendations. We may want to stage them in batches rather than move them all forward at once, as long as we can deal with the documents in SC22 in a timely fashion.
