From: Jim Isaak Subject: (SC22WG15.1188) WG15 Convener ... opening still exists Date: Mon, 23 Feb 1998 14:24:29 -0500 WG15 Members: Just to remind you, this is my last WG15 meeting as convener; and we still do not have a replacement candidate. (I do expect to attend the Aug. SC22 meeting, but ...not alone I hope.) It would be most useful for National Bodies to have candidate(s) identified for the April 24 meeting. Thanks, jim ============================================================= From: Jim Isaak 23 Feb. 1998 Superceeds: August 11, 1997 & 29 Oct 97. ============================================================= WG15 Convener Job Description: 1) Meeting role: work with chair to establish agenda provide to SC22 secretariat as meeting notice solicit member body and liaision reports provide convener action item report Provide assistance at meeting as required 2) Project Secretariat role: maintain status information on active projects facilitate "next step" to take place: -- Project editor DoC's to Secretariat (can be direct Proj. Ed to Secretariat) -- Draft document provided to secretariat (often done direct from U.S. or Proj. Editor) -- Ballot summaries provide to Project Editors Provide annual report to SC22 3) Attend meetings: SC22 Meeting, 1/year, 5 days, Intl WG15 Meeting, 2/year, 2-4 dyas, Intl And probably associated National Body TAG/Panel meetings (WG15 and SC22) 4) WG Secretariat: Maintain SD6, list of WG15 member contacts, liasions, project editors distribute hard copy materials to list when needed (facilitate migration to all electronic operations) There have been 2 to 4 mailings per year, just after WG15 meetings, and 70 days in advance or so. To 60 WG15 members, typically 150+ Pages each. Cost per mailing will depend on location of Convener (See SD6 for Intl list) This should drop off significantly as we go "online" Maintain document list (looking to automate this via a web page) Archive WG15 Resolutions, issues list (as well as recent minutes, mailings, drafts) Coordinate WG15 "letter" (or Email) ballots Solicit future meeting invitations 5) Other tasks as assigned by Working Group 15, SC22 (inc. secretariat and chair of SC22), and implicit (or presumably explicit) from JTC1, ISO/IEC. 6) Time and Travel estimates: Travel 3-4 day SC22 meeting, typically August/Sept. time frame two 2-3 day WG15 meetings (typically April/Oct) convener may be expected to participate in his/her national body panel/tag meeting(s) as well. Time: I find this takes less than 10% of my time, outside of the 3 weeks of travel required for the 3 international meetings (more for U.S. TAG meetings which I also attend) The time goes in "lumps", most of it is in responding to email requests (from the secretariat, or other members) with batch time required for mailing arrangments, updating project management information; pursuing action items; preparing reports (for WG15 and SC22).
