More ideas on locale symbolic ranges. I would like ... to mean the names from a charmap in the order appearing in the charmap. And then I would like that it was possible to specify this ordering to be taken from another charmap than the current; this charmap should be the one defining the order generally, it could be 10646 or UNICODE charmap or whatever. If some character in the range appeared another place, for instance in the collating sequence definition, this explicit definition shall take precedence over the implicit definition in the range and a warning should be generated. For collating sequences, a symbol shall be specified to mean the current symbol of the range, for example SYMBOL. I think this could shorten locales significantly, while still preserving the generality. Keld
