NC 381 22/95 - ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 22/WG 15 RIN N145 24th April 1995 Proposal for the introduction of the term 'symbolic letter' Because the Dutch language contains the letter as a double character element and its uppercase representation is , there is a need for the LC_TYPE character class for proper capitalization of multicharacter elements. Proposed is to introduce the notion 'symbolic letter' for a string of letters so that such strings can be manipulated in different functions as a single character element.
