It is not clear how a replace-after mechanism would impact or interact with specifications that the UniForum and X/Open i18n working groups are developing for network-wide locale definition, X Window support, etc. 2. I would suggest that fairly detailed specs of the desired functionality be generated and submitted to the UniForum and X/Open i18n working groups, as well as to RIN, Dot2, etal for review and comment. I know that we have discussed the concept, but I don't believe that we have actually seen a full spec. 3. As a general practice, should we be including elements of functionality in international standards that have not been "field tested" ?? 4. I am a little worried about including non-standard functionality in one (or, several) country's non-normative annexes, particularly if it has not been fully specified, received broad review, etc. Doing so would seem to create a significant interoperability issue, particularly in large networks of heterogeneous systems in which all machines need to precisely support (or deal with appropriately) the same functionality. -- Ralph Barker Voice: +1 408-986-8840 FAX: +1 408-986-1645 Director of Technical Services, UniForum (formerly /usr/group) 2901 Tasman Drive, Suite 201, Santa Clara CA 95054 email: ralph@techcomm.uniforum.org
