The group met in September 1998 and have agreed a technical scope for the common revision (see http://www.opengroup.org/austin for details). The goal of the Revision project is to produce a common set of books that would replace the core POSIX specifications and appropriate parts of the Single UNIX Specification, and carry joint copyrights of The Open Group and the IEEE. These books would be a subset of the materials that would make up a future version of the Single UNIX Specification. There are still some procedural issues that need to be worked out, these are being handled by another joint committee between TOG/PASC/WG15. There are also business issues that need to be agreed between TOG and IEEE. It is assumed that the output of the January meeting will be sufficient for the technical group (The Austin Group) to commence its work shortly thereafter. Current thoughts for meetings for 1999 are as follows; up to four meetings this year. The first meeting is expected to occur in early March , with another meeting in July (Montreal). The first meeting is expected to focus on generating the table of contents for the specifications, and then a first draft would be produced for the July meeting. We expect to produce two drafts this year. Andrew Josey The Open Group
