\par In considering its response to this Action Item, the UK looked at the=
 extract of FCD 15652: \lquote Specifications for handling of the=
 Euro\rquote  (also referenced as ISO/IEC FCD 14652 within the document),=
 recently emailed to the WG15 email reflector.

\par The UK believes that 15652 as presented contains a number of flaws: the=
 fixed conversion rate is one, additionally the proposal does not offer a=
 generic solution to either currency conversion or to multiple currencies. =
 More work is needed, but the UK is concerned that the deadline is too close=
 \endash  by the time this kind of solution is adopted the period of dual=
 currencies will have passed.  The attempt to produce a standard to deal=
 with dual currencies would not be sufficiently timely to be useful.  The=
 proposal is also incomplete, in that the example on the final page uses=
 items that are not defined elsewhere.

\par The UK believes that the Euro is just another currency to the UK; =
 since the UK is not moving to the common European currency (yet), it has=
 problems similar to those of the USA rather than to those of France or=
 Germany - specific handling is not appropriate.

\par The UK further proposes that the words \lquote plain (or ASCII)=
 text\rquote  would be more appropriate than \lquote DOS text\rquote .

\par Moving to fully electronic meetings, though, is not considered viable. =

\par Real-time electronic meetings have unpleasant effects where those=
 taking part happen to live in very different time-zones.  This can=
 seriously impair the usefulness of the meeting.

\par Semi-real-time meetings, as at WG15 in Exeter and Cornwall, (where=
 email exchanges were made from the meeting room to clarify various issues),=
 were seen to be very effective, and the Panel recommends applying this=
 technique in the future where possible.  A core of personnel in one=
 (Internet-worked) room is still, however, believed to be necessary to=
 concentrate discussion and to progress the agenda.

\par Finally, the UK believes that it would help WG15 Member Bodies to=

 consideration are appearing only as grapeshot from the email reflector; it=
 is not always obvious that these are MB contributions and they do not=
 always gain a WG15 Nxxx document endorsement to underline their status.
