Unfortunately, I have been unable to get these DoC in by their alotted dates. Work on these documents has progressed, however, as I have ensured the appropriate discussions have taken place with the appropriate working group chairs and those concerned. Specifically: POSIX.1a: There were no objections to the current draft from any Member Bodies. A simple DoC is required and will be forthcoming shortly. POSIX.1g: After receiving what was believed to be all the comments last October on POSIX.1g (sockets/XTI), X/Open's XNET raised another set of issues with the draft. I spent some time in a conference call with XNET in December, and encouraged that they send their comments in via the X/Open liaison to WG15, and they could then be considered. Email discussions took place between the ISO Project Editor and the IEEE Chair (Steve Case) last January. At the time it was believed that the best course of action was to direct the IEEE Technical Editor (Dr. Chris Harding, X/Open) to make the changes originally brought forward through the U.K. MB to WG15 last October (concerning size_t, etc) and to refuse the additional changes requested late December from the X/Open WG15 liaison (requested by XNET). The latter changes were very late in arriving, and the IEEE chair was concerned that it would destroy ballot concensus, while the U.K. MB changes were straight forward corrections to the document. It is my understanding that the changes have been made to a draft of POSIX.1g, and a new draft for IEEE balloting and WG15 review will be forthcoming. X/Open has an IEEE PAR in motion, approved by the PASC SEC in January 1997, to amend a completed IEEE standard (with a fresh ballot group). The formal DoC will be forthcoming shortly. POSIX.2b: There were substantial comments from Denmark on the last ballotted draft of POSIX.2b. These comments arrived shortly after the May 1996 WG15 meeting (Copenhagen) but mirrored the discussion that took place in Copenhagen on POSIX.2b. There was an action item on the U.S. MB for Copenhagen to discuss a list of concerns on POSIX.2b from Denmark, Japan, and the U.K.. A document was prepared by the Project Editor and IEEE POSIX.2 chair and discussed at length in the May 1996 WG15 meeting in plenary with all member bodies concerned present. Items which could be addressed in the document were accepted, and those that could not be addressed were refused with rationale. This WG15 numbered document will form the basis for the DoC for the POSIX.2b draft. As substantial time and effort went into the document and its discussion in WG15, it was not seen to be a delaying point for the working group preparing the next iteration of the draft. I apologise again for the lateness of the actual Disposition of Comments documents. Work commitments have unfortunately delayed these items. Work on all these documents has progressed after relevant discussion with the concerned WG15 parties. respectfully, Stephen R.
