Most of you will be travelling south-west (down) the M5 - I'll assume that I can leave you to navigate that far. Some may prefer to take the scenic route down the A303/A30, passing Salisbury, Stonehenge and fewer speed cameras. If you take the A303/A30 then you need to join the M5 at Junction 29, and head south-west - ie turn left off the A30 on to the M5. Continue on the M5 until Junction 31, where you should leave the Motorway and take the A30 in the direction of Okehampton. (It may seem perverted to tell you to leave the A30, join the M5 then join the A30 again, but have faith - we do these things to amuse the tourists). You will now be on a dual-carriageway. Take the next exit (signed Ide, Mortonhampstead and Marsh Barton) off the dual carriageway. The slip road leads down to a roundabout under the A30. Take the first exit (left) off this roundabout, onto Ide Lane. Follow this road, (a single-carriageway now), for maybe 2km, winding back under the dual carriageway, until you reach a T junction. (You can't miss it - if you carry straight on you'll bury your car into a well-manicured grass slope which passes as someone's front garden.) At the T-junction turn right, towards Exeter, on to the B3212. The road heads up a slope and winds left. At the top, maybe 500m from the T-junction, and just after the road levels out, you will see Exeter spread before you - hang an immediate left, opposite a small 'open-all-hours' shop, currently labelled 'All-Days'. You should by now see signs for Crossmead Conference Centre, which will be third on your left, about 500m from the junction and the shop. These directions take you in a loop from the eastern edge of Exeter, south then west of the city, avoiding the town centre completely. It is a few miles longer than a direct route, but potentially much quicker! Look forward to seeing you all at the weekend - I hope to be at Crossmead on Saturday evening and on Sunday, installing printers, copiers and network cabling (and a few beers). If you have an Ethernet card (BNC or TP) it may be worth bringing it with you. -- _________________________________________________________________________ David Cannon University of Exeter, IT Services Laver Building, North Park Road Systems/Network Programmer Exeter, EX4 4QE, Devon, UK Phone: +44 (0)1392 263939 Fax: +44 (0)1392 211630 _________________________________________________________________________
