WG15 N586 (Title: overview of DS input to .2b) points to a number of
issues and documents relating to proposals for amendments to P1003.2b.

At the last WG15 RIN meeting in Twente I, Keld and George Kriger were
charged with developing a RIN Issues list which identified the status
and history of many of the points raised in N586.

I have spent some hours poring over dusty WG15 and RIN documents in an
effort to build the Issues list.  The resulting document is large and
has not yet been presented to RIN for discussion, so its findings are
'unapproved';  I have extracted the resolution, so far as I have been
able to determine them, of the points raised in N586 from the unapproved
Issues list and offer them as input to any discussion which may develop
on N586.

I encourage any comments on the following; they would help me to improve
the development of the Issues list.  If anyone would like a copy of the
full document in its current state I would be very happy to forward it - 
it is currently some 85kb of ASCII text.	Look forward to hearing

Points raised in N586, in no particular order:

ISO 646 inv support:	N416
     Resolution:
		RIN regards the issue as dead.	WG15 and the US
		development body also regard the proposal as being
		rejected.

Extended identifiers:	N420
     Resolution:
		WG15 and the US development body have rejected the
		proposal in N416, and accepted that contained in N420.

multibyte characters:	N441
     From WG15 RIN Twente, May 1995:

	3.1.11	C MSE widechar support --Japan will make a proposal--open

9410-27:		N558
     N558 reiterates the Danish wish list:
	DS: P1003.2b D10:  Some things are still missing:
	1. N416 needs to be incorporated to cover iso 646 invariant support.
		Rejected - see above.
	2. Stateful charmaps needs to be addressed
     Resolution:
   |		This is agreed to be necessary.  The US Development body
   |		is expecting input from the Japanese MB to extend the
   |		charmap syntax.
	3. Repertoiremap utilities needs to be incorporated.
	4. iconv needs further work.
	5. substitute as in P1003.2 D7 or D8 needs to be incorporated.
		See below.
	6. Extended Identifiers nedds to be incorporated.
		Rejected - see above.
	7. Better 10646 support has to be incorporated.
	8. CEN POSIX cultural registry needs to be referenced.
	9. Some character set refernces in pax needs work.

new utilities:		N561
     This is a recent submission by the Danish MB.  The US development
     body response, in US TAG N___, has not yet been discussed by WG15.

replace-after:		N566 annex E.
     Resolution:
		WG15 RIN resolved at its October 1992 Reading meeting
		NOT to proceed with either replace_after or
		reorder_after.

Substitute:		1003.2/D8 section 2.5.2.2
     Resolution:
   |		Substitute is requested only by Denmark; other
   |		potentially interested MBs - Canada and Japan - have
   |		indicated that they do not require the substitute
   |		feature.
   |		It is suggested that further discussion of substitute in
   |		RIN is likely only to revisit old argument, therefore it
   |		is recommended that Denmark make a final submission of
   |		requirement for consideration by WG15 and the US
   |		development body, accompanied by this section of the RIN
   |		Issues list.
