Jim] ============================================ AFNOR has some concerns on the current situation of open systems. Users are confused by the lack of explicit co-ordination between key actors of open systems: ISO and IEEE in one way; X/Open and OSF in an other way. In addition to the excellent job provided by IEEE to the formal International standardisation process, the specifications prepared by X/Open are very much relevant. The French National Body asks WG15 to prepare a position toward the work done by X/Open and especially Spec 1170. ANFOR considers that spec 1170 may be improved, nevertheless the AFNOR POSIX WG thinks it absolutely urgent to have a political action which shows to the market that the various actors of open systems play in the same stream. Actions should be taken following the statement of position from WG15. [End of French contribution]
