We read several messages concerning these problems around this January, and we fully understood the situation of the shortage of manpower and expert skills for making the draft of so huge IEEE POSIX. It is, however, rather difficult to delete the working items for Test Method, LIS and Language Bindings from the ISO/IEC JTC1 SC22/WG15 target because they were and will be ballotted and accepted internationally as SC22 proposals. Therefore, even if IEEE SEC accepts the new proposals from the Ad-Hoc Meeting, it is necessary to propose these items to SC22 for international ballot and permission. It may be too official to do the standardization, but international corrdination can only be realized to follow the consented rules. Otherwise, no one can believe the proposed wortk items and future directions for the standard. The suggestion to ask ISO to send severall manpower to IEEE to finish the TM and LIS may be a good one. It is also necesary to discuss the inter relations between IEEE LIS work and SC22/WG11 work. As for the Japanese situation, we need to create JIS(Japanese Industrial Standard) for any of the ISO standard, and we just finished the draft for the 9945-1 at the end of this March. Therefore, it is difficult to save several manpowers to cooperate with IEEE POSIX work, but I'm sure to review and check the draft of the POSIX prepaerd by IEEE. Since POSIX is a very fundamental and important standard for the computer system, it is not necessary to make hurry to finish this work in a short term. There are several dramatic trends and movement in computer systems ,especally the basic and middle software, and therfore the neutral standards like POSIX becomes more and more important.
