SC22/WG15 National Body Representatives,

	As requested in Action 9210-74 (ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG15 N326,
"Minutes of Meeting 27-30 October 1992 Reading, UK"), I would like
to ask you to send me your opinions on questions 4, 5, 8, and 9 of
"Attachment #3:  Survey Questionnaire for XL Standard Projects" found
in the "Terms of Reference for a SC22 Ad Hoc Group on Cross-language
coordination" (ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22 N1235).

	In WG15, the Cross-language projects are the Language 
Independent (LI) Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and
commands identified within each of the POSIX standards being
developed; the one of most interest is the System (Kernel) Interfaces
(1003.1 LI) and of course the projects which are amendments to it
(eg., Realtime (1003.4 LI)).

This questionnaire considers the following standards as programming
language standards:

           Pascal
           Extended Pascal
           APL
           COBOL
           Fortran
           BASIC
           Ada
           Modula-2
           C
           LISP
           Prolog
           FIMS
           VDM
           C++
           M

	Could you please send me your opinion with respect to the
following questions:

    4)   Does the value of this cross-language standard depend on
         its widespread support by programming language standards?
    
    5)   Does the value of this cross-language standard depend on a
         common binding method being used for all programming
         language bindings?
    

	For each of the programming languages listed above, could you
answer the following questions:

    8)   Is a binding useful between the cross-language standard and
         the programming language standard?  Why?
    
    9)   Is a binding feasible between the cross-language standard
         and the programming language standard?  If not, why not?

(preferably via email) to one of addresses or FAX number listed
below?  As Chair of the SC22/WG15 Ad Hoc committee responding to this
questionnaire, I will be collating the WG15 response during the
first week of February; I would appreciate receiving your response
by February 1st.  If anyone needs a copy of the entire questionnaire,
the Binding Methods as described in Attachment 1, and/or the entire
document including terms of reference for the SC22 Ad Hoc working group,
please let me know and I would be happy to send you an email version.
