This is also slightly revised to reflect new data from Hal -- Donn) SC22/WG15 US TAG N244 To: WG15 US TAG Members Oct 2, 1991 (Informally to) Other WG15 TAG/Panel/Group/?? Members From: Donn Terry Subj: Availablity of 9945-2.2 (a.k.a. 1003.2 D11.2) I received the following note from Hal Jespersen. For those that are interested, the document we expect to mail as CD 9945-2.2 is available on line. The information is attached in the following note. I have sent the paperwork to ANSI asking that the same document (on paper) be forwarded as CD 9945-2.2, but it has been less than a week, and thus ANSI has not yet responded. You will be receiving (assuming ANSI and SC22 Secretariat approve) this document for a 2d CD letter ballot. However, this should give you earlier access to it. The same draft (but only as a set of changed pages) is out for ballot in IEEE. In the cover letter for the CD, we have requested that any information available by the Stockholm meeting be brought to the meeting, to speed progress on the document. This should make that easier. As Hal notes, this is an experiment. Thus the setup could change as we find out more. Also, something could go wrong. If something does, please be sure that Hal or one of the other sponsors of the experiment is aware of the problem. Please don't post the availability of these documents to the net in general. Hal will do that when he's ready for the volume of requests that that will generate. Hal has requested that where possible you not cache local copies of the | document, as the tools are keeping track of who accesses it. This is | so that the IEEE can gain some sense of both the volume of usage and | who uses it. | My reading of the copyright is that everyone involved in WG15 is clearly authorized to make copies for WG15 purposes. (The statement is much broader than that, and in lawyerese, so that's my attempt at translation to our needs.) (Note... I believe that this is NOT the best form from which to start a translation of the document to another natural language. Such uses can be arranged thru other channels, and the troff input can be obtained for that use.) Donn - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hal's Note (edited for relevance to this list): - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the meantime, the IEEE Computer Society has authorized an experiment in online access and P1003.2/D11.2 and P1003.0/D13 are the guinea pigs. The instructions for accessing them are below, taken from the Editor's Notes section. I am emailing this to my various review groups and X/Open to start the experiment in a somewhat limited fashion. Please don't broadcast this out on netnews until we know the directories are set up correctly and things are working. There is also the possibility that the IEEE lawyers will tell us to change the copyright notice we've added to the online files. The current copyright notice appears below, after the instructions. And thanks to Andrew Hume for all his assistance with this process. It was a lot of work to set this up, I think. Hal Jespersen - ----------- P1003.2 Draft 11.2 is now available in various electronic forms to assist the review process. Our thanks to Andrew Hume of AT&T Bell Laboratories for providing online access facilities. Note that this is a limited experiment in providing online access; future ballots may provide other forms, such as diskettes or a bulletin board arrangement, but the instructions shown here are the only methods currently available. Please also observe the additional copyright restrictions that are described in the online files. Assuming you have access to the Internet, the scenario is approximately ftp research.att.com # research's IP address is 192.20.225.2 cd posix/p1003.2/d11.2 get toc index binary get p1-20.Z The draft is available in several forms. The table of contents can be found in toc, pages containing a particular section are stored under the section number, sets of pages are stored in files with names of the form pn-m, and the entire draft is stored in all. By default, files are ASCII. A .ps suffix indicates PostScript. A .Z suffix indicates a compress'ed file. The file index contains a general description of the files available. These files are also available via electronic mail by sending a message like send 3.4 3.5 9.2 from posix/p1003.2/d11.2 to netlib@research.att.com. If you use email, you should not ask for the compressed version.
